Building-Facility Engineer


Overview:
ISIS-Services seeks experienced Building-Facility Engineer. This position will ensure all facility and equipment needs are addressed and maintained on a routine basis as per regulatory requirements and will require working with various departments, providing general support (i.e., training, assistance, etc.) within this scope.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and/or enrolling the following in preventive maintenance programs for all equipment at both sites: boilers, autoclaves, washers, HVAC system, etc.; and maintaining all associated documentation.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and/or enrolling the following in preventative maintenance programs of medical equipment (C-Arms, ultrasound, TEE, ICE, etc.), ORs, OR tables and other medical/surgical/laboratory equipment; and maintain all associated documentation.
  • Responsible for maintaining animal housing areas, including vents, drainage system (including maintenance of grinder and pump system), automatic watering system, light cycles, and environmental monitoring.
  • Provide support for standard office equipment, including phones, copiers, printers, computers, etc.
  • Responsible for maintenance of audiovisual system at ISIS- San Carlos.
  • Report any malfunction of equipment and systems with direct and immediate impact on animals to Director ,Veterinary Staff.
  • Attend Management Meetings, provide weekly reports, status reports, etc. as needed.
  • Assists Director with equipment and budget planning, as well as inventory of supplies.
  • Responsible for the Metasys program; printing and reviewing reports.
  • Maintain controlled access system at San Carlos.
  • Maintaining a safe and uncluttered environment in shipping/receiving areas.
  • Landscape duties of facility grounds as assigned.
  • Organizing outside areas, mezzanine, utility corridor, boiler area, etc.
  • Periodic painting of animal holding areas and other areas in facility as assigned.
  • Supports Animal Care as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field and/or 5 years related experience, 2 years in a supervisory capacity in scientific facility preferred. Engineering experience specific to physical plant maintenance/research facility. Certification in boiler maintenance. Basic knowledge/use of sanitation techniques, autoclaving, cage washing, chemical cleaning compounds, animal transport systems, clean room concepts, and hazardous agent usage. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to act with discretion and initiative in cases of impact to animal health and welfare by reporting all adverse conditions to the Veterinary Staff. Strong communication and written skills. AALAS Certification at LATG or CMAR certification a plus.

Special Factors:
Ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment calibration program. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, anticipating problems and responding appropriately and in a timely manner. Familiarity with hazardous materials handling guidelines for medical research. Basic background of applicable regulations governing the use of animals in research. Basic knowledge of various species of animals used in research and their care.
