Research prototype testing often requires an evaluation of the prototype's performance in a disease model. ISIS understands the value of this procedure to its clients and has developed expertise in creating disease models in several species. Drawing upon our highly-trained and experienced team, ISIS can simulate or create disease in an animal model so that our clients can effectively demonstrate the ability of their device to treat or cure disease.
Overview of Project
In a recent study, a client working in the area of atherectomy device development sought the assistance of ISIS Services for an appropriate animal model for the evaluation of their medical device. ISIS veterinarians responded with a comprehensive literature review model design that allowed the client to successfully evaluate the performance on their device in a living model.
Project Details
In order to obtain an accurate assessment of the client's device, animal model development in this protocol consisted of creating an atherosclerotic lesion disease model in the abdominal aorta of a rabbit. A team of ISIS professionals performed a balloon injury to the abdominal aorta and followed the procedure with a high fat diet to simulate aortic lesions that can later build up as plaque and cause blockages. ISIS confirmed lesion creation in the animal through the utilization of their state-of-the-art C-arm Fluoroscopy and Intravascular Ultrasound equipment.
Outcome of Project
Due to the expertise and guidance from the ISIS medical and technical staff, the model was successfully created with lesions optimal for treatment by the client's prototype device.
